Community Is…”: an interactive and performative installation project featuring hand-made LED screens that display video works submitted by the community, over a period of 3 months, from an open call for artists. Using 57,600 LEDs forming a see-through matrix in standing frames, low resolution videos are displayed floating in front of the landscape and architecture visible behind: a kind of contextual awareness situating the content in the environment where it is located.
The screens form a two sided wall, with different content on each side: participants provided 2 videos for this, which are related and connected but not visible simultaneously. The screens form readable video content from a distance, drawing the viewer closer, but as they approach the content dissolves into flickering lights, reflecting the concept that community is clearly visible from the outside but lost in the individual uniqueness when up close and inside.
Cameras capture the viewers as they approach and mix their presence into the content, allowing the viewers to be performing participants, to join and merge with the community and lose themselves in the close up pixels.
On top of that the entire project is being live remixed by the artist, forming a continuous interaction between artist, screen, participating artists and viewers. Presented as a community participation project and also as a demonstration of how we can leverage technology to communicate in ways not open to linear media forms and standard narrative modalities. |
